Destinations Career Academy of Wisconsin Opens Enrollments for 2018-2019 School Year

Destinations Career Academy of Wisconsin (DCAWI) a tuition-free, online public school, is now accepting enrollment applications for the 2018-2019 school year. DCAWI provides students in grades 9-12 anywhere in the state with access to a unique Career Technical Education (CTE) program, delivered online. In addition to its full-time program, students enrolled in any Wisconsin public school can enroll in online CTE courses at DCAWI.

DCAWI introduces students to technical and specialty trades through a robust online CTE curriculum. In addition to working towards their high school diplomas, students discover exciting options for their future in four career fields: architecture and construction, business management and administration, health science, and information technology.

Students participating in the architecture and construction pathway have the unique opportunity to participate in the Operating Engineer Pre-apprenticeship Program. A partnership with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 139 and Fox Valley Technical College, this program prepares students to enter an apprentceship training program in the construction industry. Students gain knowledge and experience via the dedicated curriculum, and have access to simulators of such construction equipment as cranes, bulldozers, excavators, forklifts and more.

According to a national survey released by K12 Inc. and Edge Research in 2017, almost 95 percent of Americans agree that high school students should have more opportunities to learn practical, real-world skills. Moreover, 96 percent of parents see CTE as a good option for students who want to start a career immediately after high school, and 88 percent of parents said the same for students who are college-bound.

"Whether they are heading to college or into the workforce, we want our graduates to be set up for success," says Head of School Nicholaus Sutherland. "By offering early exposure to a variety of career options, we empower our students to shape their own future."

In addition to CTE courses, DCAWI's curriculum includes courses in the core subjects of math, science, English/language arts, history, world languages, art and music. Wisconsin-licensed teachers provide live online instruction and communicate with students in the virtual classroom, as well as via phone and email.

Families can submit an application during the open enrollment window, which runs from Monday, Feb. 5 through 4 p.m. CST on Monday, April 30, 2018. Families are encouraged to attend an in-person or online information session. For more information on how to enroll, and for a schedule of upcoming events, visit widca.k12.com.
