ASH 2017 Recap Now Available in Evidence-Based Oncology™, a Publication of The American Journal of Managed Care®

If you missed the American Society of Hematology (ASH) 2017, or you want to review major findings, the meeting recap is now available in Evidence-Based Oncology™, a publication of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®). You can find the full issue at ajmc.com.

AJMC® Associate Editorial Director Surabhi Dangi-Garimella, PhD, leads off the issue with updates from the JULIET and ZUMA-1 trials, which led to approvals for the world's first chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies: Kymriah to treat pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and Yescarta to treat certain types of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Both therapies are being studied in other blood cancers.

Dr. Dangi-Garimella also discusses a critical question in cancer care: as clinicians and patients balance the benefits an potential toxicities of therapies, when should treatment stop? This was addressed in the session, "Treatment-Free Remission and Cardiotoxicity: the Future of CML Care."

Featured quality-of-life studies include:

  • an analysis of using of time spent at home at the end of life as a quality measure
  • a finding that low-income patients with AL amyloidosis had poorer health-related quality of life,
  • a connection between symptoms of myeloproliferative neoplasms and quality-of-life levels.

A study of rituximab use found that financial incentives may encourage overuse of the cancer drug in the community setting.

The issue features new results for ibrutinib, the ECHELON-1 study, additional coverage on the cost of care and a section on biosimilars. The issue also includes interviews with experts that also appear online at www.ajmc.com/conferences/ash-2017.
