I-Squared Act Will Mean Fairer, More Efficient Immigration System, Says CTA

The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro (News - Alert), president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA), regarding today's introduction of the Immigration Innovation ("I-Squared") Act by Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT):

"Acquiring top talent from around the world is critical to America's continued economic success, but foreign countries are stepping up their efforts to recruit the world's best engineers, developers and other STEM professionals. If we do not update our immigration laws, the U.S. risks falling behind.

"Foreign workers on H-1B vsas alone create an average of 1.83 American jobs each. The I-Squared Act is exactly the kind of modernization that our immigration system needs. The bill will ensure that U.S. companies can access the best talent in order to grow and create jobs. Equally important, the bill puts measures in place to prevent bad actors from using visas to displace American workers; and revenue from the visas in the I-Squared Act will be used to create the largest U.S. workforce training fund in our nation's history.

"This smart and balanced approach to high-skilled immigration reform is an opportunity Congress can't afford to miss. We urge the Senate to move swiftly on getting this bill to President Trump's desk."
