Georgia Schoolchildren to Discuss School Choice with Lawmakers

Children from Bright Futures Academy will chat with lawmakers about school choice and give them handmade cards and letters from students all over the state, sharing their experiences at school and asking for more educational opportunity in Georgia.

The drop-in breakfast will take place from 8 a.m. till 10 am. Friday, Jan. 26 in room 125CAP of the Georgia State Capitol building in Atlanta. About 200 people are expected to attend, and the students will give firsthand accounts of their academic successes resulting from attending schools that best suit their learning needs.

This event is planned to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2018, which will feature more than 32,000 school choice events across all 50 states.

"We look forward to celebrating the changed lives that school choice has yielded for children in Georgia," said Georgia Center for Opportunity president and CE Randy Hicks. "Many more children are waiting for the same chance for success, but instead face barriers placed on them by their zip code and unresponsive elected officials. As the 2018 legislative session begins this year, we expect lawmakers to fulfill their promises to open new opportunities for our state's most underserved kids."

The Georgia Center for Opportunity is hosting the event.
