Destinations Career Academy of Colorado Now Accepting Enrollment for 2018-19 School Year

Destinations Career Academy of Colorado (CODCA), an accredited, full-time online public school program, is now accepting enrollment applications for the 2018-19 school year. CODCA is the first online, CCCS State-approved Career Technical Education (CTE) program in the state, teaching students statewide in grades 9-12 career and employment skills while they are still in high school.

CODCA introduces students to technical and specialty trades through a robust online CTE curriculum. Students can discover exciting options for their future in seven career fields: agriculture, business management and administration, health science, information technology, marketing and STEM. CODCA is the first online school in the state to receive the top level of approval from the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education (SBCCOE) for the business, marketing, health sciences and programming pathways.

"We give our students real-world skills and meaningful exposure to career opportunities," said Teri Cady, head of school at Destinations Career Academy of Colorado. "The combination of our online platform and our CTE programs means they will be better prepared to join the 21st century workforce."

According to a national survey released by K12 Inc. and Edge Research in 2017, almost 95 percent of Americans agree that high school studnts should have more opportunities to learn practical, real-world skills. Moreover, 96 percent of parents see CTE as a good option for students who want to start a career immediately after high school, and 88 percent of parents said the same for students who are college-bound.

Students at CODCA prepare to earn technical credentials and may earn college credits and gain workplace skills while still in high school. Other learning opportunities include interview preparation, team collaboration and effective communication. Graduates from CODCA are well prepared to enter a two- or four-year college or the workforce.

In addition to CTE courses, CODCA's curriculum includes courses in the core subjects of math, science, English/language arts, history, world languages, art and music, and Advanced Placement® courses are available, as well. Colorado-licensed teachers provide live online instruction and communicate with students via phone, email and the online classroom technology in order to guide students toward their academic goals, whether they are heading to college or into the workforce.

Outside of class time, CODCA provides opportunities for students and their families to connect with one another and with industry professionals in their future careers. Students may participate in SkillsUSA, a career and technical support organization, or other CTE student organizations.

During the enrollment period, CODCA will be conducting online and in-person information sessions throughout the state. Interested families are encouraged to attend to meet teachers, staff and other families and learn more about the award-winning online curriculum provided by K12.
