Free Vein Screenings in February from BoxBar Vascular

As a commitment to vascular health in 2018, BoxBar Vascular, under the leadership of Dr. Ellen Derrick, MD MPH FACS, announced free varicose vein screenings February 19-21, in addition to being the premier Seattle medical clinic approved to use the VenaSeal system to permanently treat varicose veins.

"Between 25 to 40 million people in the US have some form of venous insufficiency, also known as varicose veins," said Dr. Derrick. "Not only can they be unsightly, but they are often uncomfortable and sometimes very painful. I'm delighted to be able to offer these screenings and this relief to patients right here in our Seattle medical clinic."

To take advantage of the free vein screenings February 19-21, patients should register by either emailing [email protected] or by calling the offices at 206-596-3976.

There are two types of veins: deep veins and superficial veins. Superficial veins are those that are close to the skin. Veins contain one-way valves that open to let blood flow through and then shut to keep bloodfrom flowing backward. When valves of the superficial system are weak or damaged, blood can back up and pool, which can cause varicose veins that are enlarged, swollen or twisted.

The VenaSeal system, pictured here, is intended for patients with superficial varicose veins of the legs that cause symptoms. The procedure is the first to permanently treat varicose veins by sealing them with an adhesive. Because VenaSeal does not incorporate heat application or cutting, the in-office procedure can allow patients to quickly return to their normal activities, with less bruising.

Prior to opening BoxBar Vascular, Dr. Derrick was Medical Director of Safety at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett where she also performed vascular surgery. She is a nationally recognized pioneer in the need to track and monitor patient safety.

In addition to VenaSeal, BoxBar offers other in-office procedures for varicose and spider veins, cardiac and stroke risk assessment, as well as diagnosis and treatment of Restless Leg Syndrome, pelvic varicosities, DVT Diagnosis, Vascular Diagnosis and Treatment and more. A full range of cutting-edge, medical-grade cosmetic laser services are also available.

With easy access to both the Eastside and Seattle, the office features free parking and is located one block north of University Village at 3216 NE 45th Place, Suite 207.
