California Assemblymember Cristina Garcia, (D-Bell Gardens), Chair of the Legislative Women's Caucus, will provide opening remarks. Susan DeMarois, California State Policy Director for the Alzheimer's Association, will outline the Association's priorities for the 2018 California state legislative session.

The evening will feature Liz Hernandez, journalist and television personality (E!, Access Hollywood) and founder of video series WORDAFUL who will moderate a panel of experts on the subject of Alzheimer's and women:

  • Jennifer Kent - Director, California Department of Health Care Services
  • Pam Montana of Danville, CA (News - Alert) - Alzheimer's Association national early stage advisor, former Intel executive, currently living with Alzheimer's disease.
  • J. Kaci Fairchild, PhD, ABPP, Board Certified in Geropsychology and professor at Stanford University.
  • Heather Young, PhD, RN, Founding Dean, UC Davis Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing and member, California Commission on the uture of the Health Care Workforce.

Almost two-thirds of people living with Alzheimer's are women, and approximately two-thirds of dementia caregivers are women.1 Almost 90 percent of home care workers and personal care staff in nursing facilities are women. In California, this translates to nearly 3 million women who are either living with the disease, caring for a loved one, or working in long-term care.

Ms. Hernandez became an Alzheimer's Association advocate after her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease at the age of 68. "I understand how hard it is for caregivers who fight every day for the best possible quality of life for their loved ones," said Hernandez. "By engaging legislators and other influential community members in this way, we can improve the quality of life for millions of Californians, and accelerate research to ultimately end the disease."

The event will take place Monday, January 8, 2018, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the California Museum in Sacramento. RSVP is required for attendance; contact Nicole Gutierrez at 916.447.2731 or [email protected].
