Military Spouses in San Diego Receive Homefront Heroes Scholarships from Ashford UniversitySAN DIEGO, Jan. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --Ashford University has awarded five military spouses Homefront Heroes Scholarships. Dr. Tony Farrell, acting executive dean of Ashford University's College of Education, presented the scholarships at Copley Symphony Hall in the Jacobs Music Center during the San Diego Symphony's Home for the Holidays concert on December 16. The 2017 Homefront Heroes Scholarship recipients are Aisha Davis, Sherry Hughes, Rebecca Longsworth, Iris Menjura, and Samantha Siaw. "At Ashford University, we are passionate about serving the military community," said Dr. Farrell. "We are privileged to offer scholarships to these unsung heroes who so often sacrifice their education goals to support their families in response to the demands of military life." The Homefront Heroes Scholarship recognizes the strength and support military spouses provide our nation's servce members. The scholarship covers tuition, books, and technology fees to help the partners of military men and women pursue their degrees at Ashford University. The scholarship winners were selected from a pool of applicants who submitted essays explaining how being married to a service member has influenced their education and career goals, and how receiving a scholarship would enhance their future. Ashford University created the Homefront Heroes Scholarship program seven years ago to honor the spouses of American service members. The scholarships recognize the hard work and sacrifices of military spouses and aligns with the University's giving mission to focus on the areas of education, youth, and the military.
