Data Security Council of India (DSCI) in association with KPMG and NASSCOM Gaming Forum conducts SEGAMATHON, the only 'Security + Gaming + Hackathon' in India. SEGAMATHON inspires young game developers to showcase their creative abilities and make games in 72 hours. These games educate people about cybersecurity.

In the preliminary round, the 50 teams built games on cybersecurity themes such as artificial intelligence, cyber warfare, cryptocurrency or blockchain, threat hunting, and privacy.

Of the 50 teams that participated in the preliminary round at Hyderabad, there were seven finalists. 2 of the seven finalists were the current students of Backstage Pass. The other five teams were from game companies.

The seven finalists showcased their games at the Annul Information Security Summit (AISS2017) of DSCI. A jury consisting of eminent professionals from cybersecurity and game development industry adjudged the games and declared the 'Secure Inc' game made by the Backstage Pass team as the first runner-up.

It was an exhilarating experience for the students as they stood in the company of the best gaming talent from the game development industry across the country. The jury members were also pleased to find out that Backstage Pass is indeed a college dedicated to nurturing game development talent in India.

As the first runner-up, the Backstage Pass team has been invited to write an article about games that spread cybersecurity awareness in one of the leading cybersecurity magazines.

Joseph B Kalathil, Vatsan Pb, and Geeta Bhatt are the members of the Sapdop team that stood as the 1st runner-up. The students said, "We are ecstatic as this was the first time we participated in a game jam competition. We also learned a lot about cybersecurity. The other take away from the competition was peer group interaction and how to manage time as we had to create the game in 72 hours."

Mr Surya Prakash P., Founder of Backstage Pass, says, "It is a proud moment for Backstage Pass yet again. Our students have been winning awards at different gaming events in India and abroad since early 2012. It motivates the mentors and me to push ourselves to provide the best mentoring and showcasing opportunities."
