First Tech Federal Credit Union Lights the Way with "Season of Giving"

First Tech Federal Credit Union members, employees, and community celebrated their fifth annual 'Season of Giving'. Through in-branch and online voting in Oregon, Washington, California, and beyond, First Tech directed more than $200,000 and 3,000 volunteer hours toward organizations that build stronger communities through education, research, and innovation. Employees, members, and the community voted to support featured nonprofits in each state, with lead contributions of $18,500 to Page Ahead Children's Literacy Program (Wash.), $24,500 going toward SMART (Ore.), and $16,000 to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital (Calif.).

The Season of Giving is a celebration and continuation of the credit union's ongoing philanthropic work within local communities; supporting organizations focused on impactful change. With 27,000 volunteer hours and more than $3 million in charitable giving throughout 2017, the 'Season of Giving' compliments First Tech's commitment to the community. "We're delighted to be able to give back and make a difference for the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators," said First Tech President and CEO Greg Mitchell. "Investing in our community is just one way that we live our credit union philosophy of people helping people, and share our commitment to giving back to those who need it most."

As the leading provider of literacy support for children and families, Page Ahead strives to close the gap in academic achievement. Focusing on underserved communities throughout Washington state, Page Ahead's literacy programs ensure that every child has a strong foundation to launch from. "For families struggling to make ends meet, books can be an unaffordable luxury. But kids can't become strong readers without them!" said Page Ahead's Executive Director, Susan Dibble. First Tech's $18,500 donation will fund the purchase of more than 4,000 new books that will shape and propel the learning and achievement of over 400 children.

The $24,500 donation to SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) will directl benefit children from underserved communities throughout Oregon. SMART works to get books into the hands of children at pivotal points in their academic development; inspiring a love of reading and providing the vital one on one support and resources they need to meet literacy and learning benchmarks. First Tech's donation of $24,500 will fund libraries for over 400 children- building brighter futures one imaginative mind at a time.

First Tech's $16,000 donation to UCSF Benioff will support and sustain the Child Life program where highly-trained specialists provide hospitalized children with opportunities to engage in therapeutic play, education, and self-expression as they receive life-saving care. First Tech's partnership with UCSF Benioff directly impacts the hope and healing of children and families experiencing health related challenges; with funding dedicated to innovative care and supportive health services for children.
