Parade Updates USB 3.1 Gen 2 Retimer Product Family With Addition of Dual-Port DeviceParade Technologies, Ltd. (Taipei Exchange: 4966.TWO), a leading high-speed interface, video display, and touch controller IC supplier, today announced a new addition to its USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbit/sec retimer product family. The PS8817 features two bidirectional USB Gen-2 ports through the integration of four retimer channels, providing two downstream and two upstream connections. The device primarily targets USB Host systems such as PCs and workstation/servers, but can also be applied to USB Device systems including docking stations. The PS8817 complements the recently introduced PS8811 that is a single-port USB Gen 2 bidirectional retimer. USB retimers are needed when longer PCB traces are used for signal routing, or when other transmission losses are introduced such as when passing the USB signal through a passive switch for signal routing. The PS8817 supports both Gen 2 (10Gbit/sec) as well as Gn 1 (5Gbit/sec) operation. It also supports the Intel (News - Alert) DCI (Direct Connect Interface) for closed-chassis debugging over the USB port.
