Digital Opportunities and Threats Covered at Oilfield Event, Minute Maid Park

Digital Opportunities and Threats Covered at Oilfield Event, Minute Maid Park

As digital technologies disrupt the oil and gas industry, leaders across the energy sector will converge in Houston to discuss trends, new advances, and emerging threats that are driving short and long-term shifts in corporate strategy and competitive advantage.

Scheduled for November 13-14 at Minute Maid Ballpark - home field for the World Series champion Houston Astros - the American Energy Society hosts "The Digital Oilfield", and will highlight pressing issues: next-generation disruptive technologies (AI-led upstream efficiencies to new blockchain developments); critical geopolitical threats (Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia…) and cyber-security risks (Fancy Bear is not alone). A concluding scenario planning seminar will provide a framework for companies to build longer-term strategies around digital technology adoption that address these critical themes.

The event will also feature keynote presentations by Commander Kirk Lippold USN, ret. (the Commander of the USS Cole when it was attacked in Yemen, 2000) and Mark Mills ("Energy Writer of the Year, 2016"). Panel speakers include but are not limited to: Raymond Smelley, CIO at Chevron (News - Alert); Bill Johnson, CTO at DCP Midstream; Binu Mathew, Global Head of Digital Products, at BHGE; as well as executives from cutting edge oil-tech ventures like Google (News - Alert) Energy, Enthought, and Invatare.

Other event highlights include: a tour of Minute Maid Park (neither confirming nor denying the World Series trophy will be on display); a Shark-Tank-Lite competition between ten proven energy-technology startups; an award for this year's "Energy Writer of the Year"; and complimentary Whiskey & Wine tastings (by Balcones and Hess from Napa).

"The rapid adoption of new digital technologies by the oil and gas sector is fueling a historic market-driven revolution," said Eric Vettel, President of the American Energy Society. "However, like most revolutions, change is chaotic, and not all of the adopted solutions are rational. Those who lead the next generation of this industry have a deep understanding of the disruptive technologies that enhance efficiency, improve productivity, and provide security. Others will find their companies left behind. We are pleased to host a conference that highlights first-mover insights and practical, value-driven solutions."

Registration for this special event is limited and available online. Credentialed members of the media may receive complimentary registration up to 48 hours in advance of the event. To register, visit http://www.aesenergyseries.com/ and use the discount code: DIGITAL10 . Sponsors include J.P. Morgan, PwC, Merrill Lynch, McKinsey, Bank of Texas, North Highland, Cavanal Hill Investment Management and Accenture (News - Alert). A limited number of group ticket options are also available.
