More Than 1,300 American Water Employees Give Back During Month of Service

American Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation's largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, held its companywide AmerICANs in Action! Month of Service employee volunteer event in September. More than 1,300 American Water employees stepped up to help their neighbors, participating in 90 different community volunteer projects and providing 4,300 hours of service!

"Our team is proud to serve our customers and communities by partnering on nearly 100 community volunteer projects," said Susan Story, president and chief executive officer. "We are committed to helping those we serve, and the AmerICANs in Action! Month of Service is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate our care and support for the places where we work and live."

AmerICANs in Action! continues the company's efforts to create a lasting, positive impact for the customers and the communities the company serves as part of its ongoing Corporate Responsibility program. In its seventh year, this effort encourages teams of employees to volunteer in the communities where they live and work.

Employees demonstrated a diverse range of skills through projects that included a beach cleanup in New Jersey, a blood drive in Illinois, organizing and packing items for those affected by Hurricane Harvey in Missouri, speaking to students about the water cycle in Indiana, planting trees in California, landscaping a park in Virginia and making sandwiches and lunches for a mobile outreach program in Kentucky. Many employees also volunteered at animal shelters and food banks, while others teamed up with their local Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity and United Way.
