InnovaCare Raises $4 Million to Support Ongoing Puerto Rican Relief Efforts

Officials with InnovaCare, Inc., a leading provider of Medicaid and Medicare Advantage plans and related services, announced today that its ongoing hurricane relief efforts have raised more than $4 million in the last three weeks. Most recently, InnovaCare's "Starry Night Masquerade" charity event, held October 19, drew over 950 attendees to the Skylight Clarkson North building in New York City.

The star-studded crowd included NFL players Victor Cruz, Jason Pierre-Paul and many NFL alumni, recording artists Pitbull and JoJo, and models and actresses like Danielle Brooks from "Orange (News - Alert) is the New Black" and Joan Smalls.

"This event was a special opportunity to show the people of Puerto Rico what they mean to us," said President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Shinto, M.D. "For more than a decade, these people have turned to InnovaCare, and our subsidiaries like MMM Healthcare and PMC Medicare Choice, to help them stay well and maintain a high quality of life. Now they need us more than ever, and I'm inspired and humbled by the way the InnovaCare family has responded."

InnovaCare currently supports an on-the-ground team working to ensure the proper distribution of medical supplies and humanitarian relief for communities across Puerto Rico. Future aid trips are currently being scheduled throughout the coming weeks and months.

"The people of Puerto Rico - including thousands of our employees and hundreds of thousands of our members - are experiencing devastatio and destruction like they have never seen," said Chief Administrative Officer Penelope Kokkinides. "Although we know an enormous amount of work lies ahead, it has been uplifting to see what a difference our organization is already making in the lives of those in need. The response from the entire organization speaks to the supportive, accountable culture that defines InnovaCare."

InnovaCare's relief efforts began shortly after operations were restored on September 25th. Given the widespread destruction, they quickly organized a 10 municipality tour to provide free medical care to those in need. The tour included both humanitarian aid and medical services and impacted more than 4,000 residents and provided medical services to more than 1,600 patients, regardless of insurance coverage.

"As one of the leading healthcare organizations on the island, we feel a great responsibility to continue providing necessary healthcare services here," said Waldemar C. Rios Alvarez, M.D., Chief Medical Officer for MSO of Puerto Rico, an InnovaCare subsidiary which provides administrative support to medical plans and medical groups. "While we are doing what we can to address the immediate needs of Puerto Rico's medical community today, our vision for rebuilding the island and continuing to be a trusted partner for the people of Puerto Rico extends far into the future."

Through the Caminamos Juntos campaign ("We Walk Together"), InnovaCare will continue its efforts to rebuild Puerto Rico, where residents remain in crisis and millions are without power or sufficient medical resources.
