Blue Shield of California Affirms Commitment to Providing ACA Benefits to Consumers

Blue Shield of California affirms our commitment to providing Californians with all the benefits they are entitled to under the Affordable Care Act despite the elimination of cost sharing reductions (CSR (News - Alert)) that lower deductibles, copayments, and out-of-pocket limits for more than 6.4 million low-income enrollees who otherwise would be unable to afford the care they need. CSR payments go directly to helping these individuals access needed care and do not benefit the bottom line of insurers.

In line with our mission to provide quality, affordable health care to all, we are disappointed in the President's decision to end CSR payments. We call on Congress to take immediate action to fund this important consumer benefit and we support bi-partisan solutions that bring stability to the market. We also support the lawsuit by Attorneys General from 15 states and Washington, DC, including California's Xavier Beerra, that seeks to require the federal government to continue CSR funding.

With the 2018 open enrollment period starting on November 1, Blue Shield strongly encourages consumers to enroll or renew their health plan for 2018. Californians can be assured that they will receive all the benefits they are entitled to under the Affordable Care Act.
