Blockchain Startup Gladius Wants You to Rent Your Spare Bandwidth to Fight Cyber Attacks

BETHESDA, Maryland, October 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --

The Gladius Network is a decentralized, blockchain-driven platform designed to protect against  DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks. Gladius' platform allows users to rent out spare bandwidth to help fight cyber crime.

Users who rent out their bandwidth earn Gladius tokens which can then be exchanged for fiat currency at a later time. The process is peer-to-peer (P2P) and uses the power of the blockchain in order to make a simple and systemized use and reward protocol. The new technology eliminates the need for expensive monthly payments, all too common with current cyber security software solutions.

"Gladius kills two birds with one stone utilizing unused resources to build a robust network to make websites load faster and yet still stay strong under network flooding attacks Typically, more people means less security and certainty. However, Gladius completely flips that paradigm by using numbers to our advantage. Using the blockchain to create a etwork of trust enables us to spread sensitive and vital information across the globe while remaining fully encrypted," said cofounder Max Niebylski.

The Initial Coin Offering (ICO) kicked off with a pre-sale on October 1, with the public ICO sale running from October 22 till November 22.

The problem - and solution

Most consumers are not fully maximizing the bandwidth provided by local internet providers.  When your home computer is not in use, the internet service provider still continues to charge for a minimum usage every month, meaning that consumers are losing money on their idle internet connection.

Additionally, the rented bandwidth can be pooled with other users in a completely autonomous way, and users can join and grow pools in order to monetize bandwidth. However, pools also serve a very important function within the platform.

Pools serve as a filter guardian for reversing and cleaning traffic, commonly used by DDoS attacks. DDoS attacks use a flood of information from multiple compromised servers to flood and overwhelm a single server. These sorts of attacks can cost companies huge amounts (up to $2.5 million on average) and shut down individual and corporate servers.

By allowing users to make money while fighting malicious DDoS attacks, Gladius is changing the way we fight cyber crime.
