Streamlio and Industry Leaders Launch OpenMessaging

Streamlio today announced that it has joined with industry leaders Alibaba, Di Di, and Yahoo! to launch OpenMessaging, a standards initiative for messaging software, within the Linux Foundation (News - Alert). As a founding contributor, Streamlio will help drive the creation and adoption of vendor-neutral, open standards and tools for distributed messaging and ensure that these standards are fully supported within the Streamlio real-time solution, empowering the robust ecosystem of developers and users developing modern data applications.

Messaging has become a critical component of modern data-driven architectures, connecting data sources, data processing engines, and applications. However, the lack of a vendor-neutral industry standard for messaging creates complexities and incompatibilities that hamstring companies with unproductive costs, confusion, and vendor lock-in. Streamlio and the other founding contributors of OpenMessaging--representing technology providers, users, and standards organizations--have come together to address these obstacles with a commitment to delivering standards-based interoperability for messaging solutions. OpenMessaging will enable organizations to evaluate, deploy, and integrate the technologies that they need to build their data infrastructure across on-premise and cloud deployments, streaming and batch processing.

"With the exploding number of data applications that organizations are developing and using for analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, integrating the data and infrastructure supporting those applications is a critical need," said Lewis Kaneshiro, CEO of Streamlio. "OpenMessaging will remove key barriers to integration, making it possible for developers and organizations to deliver new applications that analyze and respond to data in real time."

The announcement of OpenMessaging extends Streamlio's commitment to delivering a unified, solution for real-time data basedon best-in-class open software. Through full support of the OpenMessaging standard, Streamlio will enable organizations to integrate data from new and existing data sources, process that data in real time, and deliver that data to other systems and applications without the risks and complexities of incompatibility. Organizations will be able to take full advantage of the Streamlio solution, which consists of:

  • Distributed messaging: built on Apache Pulsar (incubating), Streamlio provides scalable messaging supporting publish-subscribe and queuing models with built-in support for enterprise security, performance, and global replication.
  • Real-time processing: built on the Heron streaming processing solution proven in production at Twitter (News - Alert), Streamlio delivers high-performance stream processing capable of handling real-time data.
  • Streaming data storage: built on the Apache BookKeeper log storage solution, Streamlio provides a scalable distributed storage platform to handle streaming data at scale.

"Lack of an industry-wide, scalable messaging standard makes evaluating a suitable solution difficult," said Matteo Merli, co-founder of Streamlio and co-creator of Apache Pulsar. "Streamlio and the Pulsar community are excited to launch and support this industry effort to define a scalable, open messaging specification."
