Whereas "closed" systems bounded by proprietary limitations have traditionally been the only option for fiber-optic networks, a growing number of network operators have begun to request "open" optical systems that they believe will improve the flexibility and performance of their networks. Such requests have come from the traditional service provider realm and the emerging data center applications space alike. This potential change in systems requirements has put pressure on technology developers to please their customers and potentially change their business models.

The Open Optical Conference will explore this evolution from the network operator and technology developer perspctives. The event will feature speaker sessions from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, a table top exhibition, and a networking reception.

"We're very pleased and gratified that such a diverse group of network operators, technology designers, and specification developers have agreed to discuss the current trends in open optical systems in Dallas," said Stephen Hardy, editorial director of Lightwave and conference program manager. "Our attendees will have the opportunity to learn from and interact with the thought leaders who are driving the current discussion about open optical systems."

Attendees can save $100 on their registration by booking before Friday, October 6. Group discounts are available.
