Green Commuter, First "Open" All-Electric Car-Sharing Service, Deploys in Los Angeles

Green Commuter deployed Los Angeles's first open all-electric car-sharing service this week. The vehicles are available to the public through the Green Commuter app. Once registered, members can locate and rent Green Commuter Tesla Model X vehicles by the hour or weekend.

Green Commuter is a vanpooling, car-sharing and fleet replacement company based in Los Angeles. The company's services are centered on zero emission vehicles. Using proprietary technology, Green Commuter leases electric vehicles (EVs) to vanpoolers during commuting hours and to car-share users or companies for fleet replacement the rest of the time. Green Commuter launched a 20-vehicle car-sharing program in Chattanooga last year and implemented its vanpooling program in Los Angeles earlier this year. Fleet vehicles are currently stationed at four locations.

"Angelenos understand the impacts of congestion; L.A.'s bad traffic is an enormous waste of time and carries high human costs in termsof public health and the environment. Ridesharing and car-sharing with electric vehicles brings tremendous benefits in terms of reduced traffic and improved air quality, while providing mobility and commuting savings to its users," said Gustavo Occhiuzzo, CEO of Green Commuter.

Leadership from City Hall to the business community have shown strong support for the promise of this new model. "Congratulations to Green Commuter for bringing this zero-waste, clean transportation solution to our city," said Councilmember José Huizar, City of Los Angeles. "Their services reflect our city's progressive, environmental protection policies that make Los Angeles one of the greenest cities in the nation."

Green Commuter is part of the ecology of Los Angeles start-ups focused on commercializing clean technologies. "We are excited to see Green Commuter playing a leadership role in the utilization of electric vehicles for public car-sharing," said Matt Petersen, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI). "This mobility option is a powerful tool supporting our vision of electrification of transportation in the fight against climate change."
