AmeriHealth Caritas Awarded Contract to Serve Delaware Medicaid and LTSS Enrollees

AmeriHealth Caritas announced today that it has been notified by Delaware's Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Medicaid and Medical Assistance (DMMA) of its intent to contract with AmeriHealth Caritas to provide managed Medicaid and long-term services and supports (LTSS) statewide under theĀ Diamond State Health Plan (DSHP) and Diamond State Health Plan-Plus (DSHP-Plus) programs. The contract will begin January 1, 2018.

"We are excited about this opportunity to expand our mission to Delaware," said AmeriHealth Caritas Chairman and CEO Paul A. Tufano. "Core to our mission is that every individual should have access to health care, and for more than 30 years we have been working in communities across the nation to make that possible. We look forward to partnering with DMMA to help continue the transformation of health care in the state to help ensure Delawareans most in need receive bet-in-class care and support through our person-centered model of care."

DSHP is Delaware's Medicaid managed care program and DSHP-Plus is the managed LTSS program for Delawareans who are elderly, disabled or qualify for both Medicaid and Medicare (dual eligibles). AmeriHealth Caritas is one of two managed care organizations selected to participate in these programs, which combined serve more than 200,000 lives.

"We are pleased that AmeriHealth Caritas will be joining our Medicaid Managed Care Program," Delaware Department of Health and Social Services Secretary Dr. Kara Odom Walker said. "I believe we share a common goal with AmeriHealth Caritas: To provide our Medicaid clients with person-centered and coordinated care across the health care system so they achieve their optimal health. Through our Managed Care Program, we look forward to embracing the benefits of value-based care with AmeriHealth Caritas."

AmeriHealth Caritas has managed care for Medicaid enrollees in neighboring Pennsylvania since 1983. In addition to Pennsylvania, AmeriHealth Caritas provides full-risk integrated Medicaid managed care services in Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, South Carolina and the District of Columbia. AmeriHealth Caritas also serves dual eligibles in Michigan, Pennsylvania and South Carolina through Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans and Medicare-Medicaid Plans. In 2018, it will begin serving LTSS members in Pennsylvania's Community HealthChoices program.
