Jefferson County Kentucky Picks A Secure Paper-Based Voting System

OMAHA, Neb., Oct. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The nearly 600,000 registered voters in Jefferson County KY will soon be casting their ballots on new and improved federally certified voting systems with voter-verifiable paper audits. Election Systems & Software (ES&S) is honored to announce that the Jefferson County Clerk's Office has made the decision to continue their nearly decade-long partnership with ES&S, ensuring the administration of fair and accurate elections for their jurisdiction through the deployment of ES&S' ExpressVote® Universal Voting System and DS200® precinct-based scanner and tabulator.

DS200 precinct scanner and tabulator combines the best attributes of a paper-based ballot system with the flexibility and efficiency of the latest digital-image technology – taking traditional optical-scan ballot vote tabulation to a new level.

"We are excited to continue our partnership with Jefferson County as they move to the mst reliable, simple and secure paper-based voting system in the industry," said ES&S' Regional Sales Manager, Mac Beeson.

ES&S is known for developing equipment with the highest standards of security. The ExpressVote Universal Voting System utilizes a variety of functions to ensure election data and cast vote records are secure. In addition, after all selections are made, the system produces a verifiable paper record for each voter. As well, like all ES&S ballot tabulation equipment, the DS200 includes physical security features to secure sensitive components and election files. The DS200 operating system controls, limits and detects unauthorized access to all critical data. The system also includes safeguards that help protect sensitive data and verify authenticity.

Jefferson County joins hundreds of locations across the U.S. whose voters, poll workers and staff benefit from the secure and intuitive voting experience provided by the ExpressVote and DS200 including areas of Florida, Indiana and Michigan, the States of Maryland and Rhode Island, the City of New York and hundreds more.

"Voter confidence is incredibly important, and it's my job to ensure that the elections system offered to our citizens is of the very best quality," said Bobbie Holsclaw, Jefferson County Clerk. "We are always looking for ways to improve our services to the residents of Jefferson County, and that's why we selected the ExpressVote Universal Voting System and DS200 precinct-based scanner. With this modern, secure and reliable system, voters can be assured that our election process meets the very highest of standards."
