The Challenge put cutting-edge RED cameras in the hands of select wildlife filmmakers for the first time to create short films with a modern take on the natural history genre. RED cameras are known for their use in Hollywood, but their lightweight modular design and incredible image quality make them ideal for any project. As the winner, Guiton will receive a RED Digital Cinema Weapon 8KS35 camera package and production gear valued at $75,000.

Guiton's film, Spiral, follows a snail on an epic journey home, battling through a microscopic world of adventure and danger. Guiton is a filmmaker who specializes in macro photography rooted in scientific knowledge. His master's degree in behavioral biology and his passion for photography led him to the world of wildlife filmmaking. Guiton's goal is to raise audience awareness of wildlife conservation by offering them the possibility to learn and dream at the same time.

"The impact RED cameras have had on Nat Geo WILD's projects is immeasurable so we were thrilled to give up-and-coming filmmakers the opportunity to take them out for a test drive," said Geoff Daniels, executive vice president and general manager, Nat Geo WILD. "It's almost unheard for a filmmaker to get this level of camera equipment to make a project of their choice, no strings attached. It was incredible to see how they took advantage of the technology."

"I was really impressed with what I saw from each of the finalists," said Jarred Land, president of RED Digital Cinema. "We're looking forward to getting Samuel his own RED camera as part of the grand prize package so he can keep up his impressive brand of storytelling."

Other finalists include Ben Masters' Wildlife and the Wall, focusing on the impact of President Trump's proposed US/Mexico border wall on the area's wildlife; and Jack Wylsons' The Call of the Sky, about the escapism of bird watching.
