SmartDrive Systems Supports NACFE's Run on Less ProgramSAN DIEGO, Sept. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SmartDrive Systems, a leader in driving performance solutions that reduce collisions and improve fuel efficiency, is participating in North American Council for Freight Efficiency's (NACFE) Run on Less program, taking place September 6-24, 2017. As the event's video-based safety sponsor, the SmartDrive® program enables participating drivers to capture footage and share their progress during the three-week drive—all being shared in video clips posted on the SmartDrive blog and Run on Less website. Run on Less is a first-of-its-kind cross-country roadshow designed to demonstrate the different technologies Class 8 trucks can use to optimize fuel efficiency. Drivers from seven participating fleets are completing different routes across the country—armed with various commercially available technologies to help improve fuel economy—with a goal of achieving 9.0 MPG or more. In addition to videos captured using the SmartDrive platform, results including MPG, freight efficiency and dollars and CO2 emissions saved will be tracked and reported on the Run on Less website. The program will culminate at the North American Commercial Vehicle Show (NACVS), Sept. 25-28 in Atlanta, GA, with a special Run on Less press conference on Sept. 24. Final MPG results will be announced and drivers will showcase their equipment and share fuel economy learnings and best practices with attendees. The fleets participating in Run on Less are:
"These seven fleets and their driversare traversing the country, delivering goods as they normally would on real routes," said Mike Roeth, executive director of NACFE. "They include a private fleet running dedicated routes, some running only for-hire irregular routes and others with a combination of both." As SmartDrive customers, Mesilla Valley Transportation and Nussbaum Transportation currently use the video-based safety program to improve fleet safety, lower fuel costs and optimize fleet operations. Dangerous driving habits such as speeding and hard braking are not only unsafe, they also waste fuel. Because the SmartDrive video-based platform and transportation intelligence solution allows fleets to identify risky or wasteful habits and enable tailored coaching to improve driving skills, they are able to reduce fuel consumption by 2 percent on average. Jeremy Stickling, vice president of human resources and safety at Nussbaum, reports that drivers who engage in the fleet's Habits Rating system (driven by SmartDrive SmartIQ data) and score high, see an increase of 0.50-0.75 MPG compared to a driver with "regular" driving habits. "Optimizing fuel efficiency is a top priority for the trucking industry, not only for the cost savings but also for environmental considerations," said Steve Mitgang, CEO of SmartDrive. "We applaud NACFE and the participating fleets for launching this innovative program to raise awareness of fuel economy and share best practices among fleets nationwide. As a sponsor of Run on Less, we are proud to help share the stories and results from the program, and look forward to discussing how our transportation intelligence and video-based platform can boost fleet fuel economy at NACVS in Atlanta."
