LikeNeighbors.com Launches in Washington, DC Metro Area

GAITHERSBURG, Md., Sept. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- What if you got a phone call from a friend who had just been in a car accident, received a devastating medical diagnosis, or welcomed a new baby? Like any good neighbor, friend or relative, you'd want to help by dropping off a meal, walking the dog or providing a ride to a doctor's appointment. Now that's possible even if you live across the country, thanks to Like Neighbors, a virtual community launched today that connects people in need with local services paid for by their network of family and friends.

"The story behind Like Neighbors began when a friend's young son was diagnosed with cancer and spent a year in the hospital," said Like Neighbors Founder and CEO Judy O'Connor. "I wanted to send them dinners to help, but found it surprisingly challenging to do so from across the country. So, I founded Like Neighbors to bridge this gap and make it easier for people to be there for their loved ones, regardless of distance or type of support needed."

The company, which makes its official debut today, operates similarly to a undraising website where users – either support recipients or their friends and family members – visit LikeNeighbors.com to create an online profile and submit or fulfill requests for support. Fresh, healthy, chef-prepared meals are currently available for delivery in the Washington, DC metro area from Galley, a prepared meal delivery service founded by LivingSocial alums Alan Clifford and Ian Costello. Additional service offerings and partner providers will be added to the Like Neighbors community in the coming months.

"When life throws you a curve ball, it's not easy to find the time or the energy to prepare a healthy meal," said Alan Clifford, Galley co-founder. "Many Galley customers already order from us for themselves or others during difficult times, so partnering with Like Neighbors is a natural fit. We're excited to be part of their initial launch in the DC metro area and look forward to working with them to help those in need."
