Whole Health Clinical Group's New Facility Addresses Mental, Behavioral and Physical Needs

Today, Whole Health Clinical Group (WHCG), a service of local nonprofit Milwaukee Center for Independence (MCFI), unveiled its new facility at a grand opening in West Allis, Wis. This new integrated health care model provides recovery-oriented services and advocacy for people living with mental illness, and is designed to remove the barriers people face in taking care of both their bodies and minds by making it available in one place.

WHCG is one of the leading providers of outpatient behavioral health services in Southeastern Wisconsin, serving the mental health recovery, behavioral and physical needs of more than 6,000 clients per year and providing integrated medical, psychiatric and social services to address the needs of the whole person.

"We're excited and hopeful as we expand our model of care into the West Allis community," said John Chianelli, vice president, Whole Health Clinical Group. "This type of care, focused on both physical and emotional health, is essential to helping raise the overall quality of life in our city."

In 2014, Milwaukee Center for Independence launched Whole Health Primary Care to provide its clients with behavioral health, primary care and community-based social services all in one location, the first community-based integrated health and social servies program in the state for persons with mental health needs.

The modern, 25,000-square-foot facility located at 932 S. 60th Street in West Allis will serve the entire community, including more than 13,000 low-income individuals, many of whom do not currently have access to primary care. This expansion, constructed in partnership with the City of West Allis and Cardinal Capital Management, will enhance WHCG's ability to provide services and increase capacity through its education center, five separate building zones, parking accommodations for 75 vehicles and convenient location along bus routes.

Securing the necessary approvals was a significant challenge that required substantial partnership with West Allis. Working in close cooperation, Whole Health Clinical Group, Cardinal Capital and the city's economic development staff successfully engaged the public, addressed neighborhood concerns and secured rezoning approvals from the city's Plan Commission and Common Council. In addition, Forward Community Investments provided a portion of its New Market Tax Credit allocations for the new building. Tri-City Bank and the Milwaukee Health Care Partnership also played key roles in bringing this project to fruition.
