Waterloo Innovation Summit to hear from leaders in disruptive technology


WATERLOO, ON, Sept. 13, 2017 /CNW/ - Hundreds of business, government and academic leaders from around the world will descend on Canada's leading technology ecosystem this week to explore the trends that are driving global innovation.

The fifth annual Waterloo Innovation Summit —Hacking the Future— takes place September 14 and 15 and is being hosted by the University of Waterloo.

"With technology driving change at a rapid pace, it's becoming increasingly important for business, government and academic leaders to work together to prepare for what is coming and capitalize on our many strengths," said Feridun Hamdullahpur, president and vice-chancellor at the University of Waterloo. "Whether it is AI, quantum technology or cybersecurity, summit attendees will engage with other leaders on when and how to harness these disruptive technologies."

With more than 300 people registered from across Canada and the around the world, attendees will hear from representatives frm some of the world's most forward-thinking companies, including Tesla, Dyson, Microsoft, Jigsaw, Kik and Whitespace at luluemon athletica.



"Innovation is vital to Canadian competitiveness," said Cam Vidler, vice president of industry and innovation at the Business Council of Canada and summit attendee. "This signature innovation event in Canada's start-up centre is a great way to keep track of the latest developments and meet key players."

"The spark of innovation only happens when we open our minds to new ways of thinking—and this is often the result of coming together to share and explore new ideas," added Rob Barton, principal systems engineer at Cisco Canada and fellow summit attendee. "The Waterloo Innovation Summit is one of the best opportunities I know of to meet with fellow thought leaders and explore the ideas shaping the future of technology and digital transformation."


The Waterloo Innovation Summit is presented in partnership with industry leaders from  Waterloo Region and across Canada, including Communitech, the Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises, SAP, Blackberry, Waterloo EDC, the City of Waterloo, the City of Kitchener, the City of Cambridge, the Region of Waterloo, HATCH, and the Business Development Bank of Canada.
