NSERC research grant for business intelligence applicationsQUEBEC CITY, Sept. 8, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - TÉLUQ University is pleased to announce that Professor Daniel Lemire, director of the university's Department of Science and Technology and researcher at TÉLUQ's cognitive informatics and training environments laboratory, LICEF, has been awarded a $210,000 grant over five years under the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada's Discovery Grants Program. This NSERC funding will also be bolstered by an additional grant of $120,000 under the Discovery Accelerator Supplements Program. The DAS Program provides substantial and timely resources to researchers who have a superior research program that is highly rated in terms of originality and innovation, and who show strong potential to become international leaders within their field. "I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Professor Lemire on being awarded this funding. His application was deemed exceptional by NSERC on the basis of his contribution to the field of informatics in the last six years. Professor Lemire has earned an international reputation for his work, and the impact of his research on the knowledge and expertise in this field will help accelerate the development of advanced search engine indexing techniques," said Martin Noël, Presidnt of TÉLUQ University. Professor Lemire's project, Faster Compressed Indexes On Next-Generation Hardware, leverages software indexes to accelerate business intelligence, machine learning and data science applications. The project hinges on three areas of research. Specifically, it aims to further optimize existing bitmap indexes; to leverage whole compression to continually set new speed records and boost performance by compressing more data; and to develop a new bitmap index format to supersede existing state-of-the-art technology for speed and memory usage. Professor Daniel Lemire's published research is available for consultation through R-libre, TÉLUQ University's open access scientific research repository.
