The Standard's Volunteer Expo Returns to Pioneer Square for Its Ninth Year

On Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, Portland's largest volunteer expo returns to Pioneer Square for its ninth consecutive year. The Volunteer Expo, presented by Standard Insurance Company (The Standard), is a free event with more than 125 participating nonprofits in one place. The expo was created by The Standard to help community members connect with nonprofits and learn about service and donation opportunities that match their skills and interests.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Volunteer Expo attendees can meet with and learn about a wide variety of nonprofits that make a difference in the community. Participating organizations represent the arts, culture, humanities, the environment, animal welfare, health, human services and more. If you've ever wanted to make a difference but weren't sure how, the Volunteer Expo is a great place to start - whether you're looking for a one-time volunteer opportunity or a longer-term commitment.

"We see the Volunteer Expo as a way to both highlight the nonprofits that help make Portland a thriving community and connect Oregonians to volunteer opportunities that align with their interests," said Greg Ness, chairman, president and CEO of The Standard. "The Standard has a longstanding commitment to organizations that positively impact our community. We're proud to host this event for the ninth year in Portland."

The Vlunteer Expo also kicks off The Standard's annual Employee Giving Campaign. The campaign takes place in September and encourages employees to support nonprofit organizations of their choosing. During the 2017 campaign, employee contributions will again be matched 2:1 up to $5,000 per employee, for a total gift of up to $15,000 per employee to the school or nonprofit of the employee's choosing. The 2016 campaign broke previous company records, exceeding $4.2 million. It affected more than 1,500 schools and nonprofit organizations across the United States, with some of the largest recipients being Habitat for Humanity, Central City Concern, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington, New Avenues for Youth and Oregon Food Bank.

Join us for the Volunteer Expo on Thursday, Sept. 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Pioneer Square, located at the intersection of Sixth Street and Yamhill in downtown Portland. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Learn more at www.standard.com/volunteer.
