Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President to Speak on the Economic Climate, and Its Impact on Monetary Policy, Sept. 5


The Dallas Business Club, a top tier business school MBA alumni organization, will host a conversation with Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Robert Kaplan, on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 6 PM. Moderated by Deryck J. van Rensburg, dean of Pepperdine Graziadio School of Business and Management, the conversation will address current economic conditions at the state, national, and international level and how these changing economic trends will affect monetary policy. Tickets are available until Friday, Sept. 1.

President Kaplan, a Harvard Business School alumnus, is a 2017 member of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) representing the 11th Federal Reserve District-Texas, northern Louisiana, and southern New Mexico. The FOMC reviews economic and financial conditions, determines the appropriate stance of monetary policy, and assesses the risks to its long-run goals of price stability and sustainable economic growth.

President Kaplan and Dean Van Rensburg will also discuss broad secular trends that are influencing the economy, and answer questions from the audience and media at the event.

Who:

Robert Steven Kaplan has served as the thirteenth president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas since September 2015. Kaplan was previously the MartinMarshall Professor of Management Practice and a Senior Associate Dean at Harvard Business School. Prior to joining Harvard in 2006, Kaplan was vice chairman of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. with global responsibility for the firm's Investment Banking and Investment Management Divisions. Previously, he served as global co-head of the Investment Banking Division. He was also a member of the firm's Management Committee and served as co-chairman of the firm's Partnership Committee and chairman of the Goldman Sachs Pine Street Leadership Program. He serves as chairman of Project A.L.S. and co-chairman of the Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation, a global venture philanthropy firm that invests in developing non-profit enterprises dedicated to addressing social issues. He is also a board member of Harvard Medical School.



Dean Deryck J. Van Rensburg is the ninth dean of the Graziadio School, having joined Pepperdine University in 2016. He brings 32 years of global business experience to Graziadio as a former executive with The Coca-Cola Company and Unilever PLC, where he held roles in the USA, Germany, the UK, Austria, Greece, Romania, Belgium, and South Africa. Most recently, as president of global ventures at The Coca-Cola Company, Van Rensburg was responsible for identifying and developing businesses with $1 billion potential via entrepreneurial partnering, corporate venture capital investment, entrepreneurial incubation and acquisition. He has experience in a wide range of markets including modern established markets, as well as developing and emerging economies. In 2011, he was nominated by Advertising Age (News - Alert) magazine as one of 21 'Influencers' reshaping media and marketing, and was also nominated to the Global 100 Corporate Venturing Powerlist in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
