Diverse Market Growth Strengthens Molex Automotive Initiatives

Molex today announced its automotive business unit is experiencing strong growth, including upward momentum in all key market areas: North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and India. This significant growth is being driven by strategic new solution developments and collaborative customer designs focused on next-generation technologies for safe and energy-efficient connected vehicles.

Delivering proven automotive solutions to customers for over four decades, Molex (News - Alert) has gained notable market success with the MX150 Sealed Connector System, USB Media Modules, USB Smart Chargers and HSAutoLink II. Accelerating the company's market growth in the sector, the pre-assembled, fully-submersible MX150 gives automakers a high performance connector in a reduced package size. Designed for multiple high-speed media protocols and network bandwidths in automotive safety and infotainment, HSAutoLink supports network bandwidths up to 2.0 Gbps and HSAutoLink II supports up to 6.0 Gbps.

"Automotive device engineers face very unique challenges," said Mark Rettig, global marketing manager, Molex. "An ongoing commitment to R&D has targeted these next-generation automotive electronics applications-and positioned Molex to play a leading role in one of the industry's key growth strategies to meet the demand for fully-connected vehicles, which is especially importnt among next-generation drivers."

Molex targets five key automotive electronics segments: connected vehicle, powertrain, safety and driver assist, body electronics and comfort, and infotainment. By leveraging proven connector designs and expertise, Molex can provide a complete vehicle electronics package with end-to-end connectivity, including everything from standard sealed connector systems to high-speed, in-vehicle, digital communication products. A high level of collaboration is essential to developing next-generation automotive products. Molex works closely with customers in its design centers around the world, including locations in the U.S., China, Germany, India and Japan.

Adds Rettig, "More and more of today's drivers are accustomed to 24/7 connectivity to the internet and 24/7 communication with colleagues, employers, family, and social networks. Enhanced driver and passenger features can help automakers build brand identity in unique new ways-and differentiate their latest models in the eyes of digital-savvy car buyers."

The market influence of automotive electronics shows no sign of abating. Vehicle electronics could account for up to 20 percent of the value of a car within the next two years, according to PcW's strategy consulting group. This represents a significant increase from about 13 percent in 2015.

"Industry analysts, automakers and, most importantly, drivers and passengers recognize the value of automotive connectivity. Projects are already underway on integrated hardware and software modules to simplify and reduce the weight of complex vehicle architectures. As the volume and speed of data transfer in automotive electronics continues to grow, high-speed Molex connector solutions will increasingly enable exciting vehicle developments," Rettig concludes.
