Altia Systems, creators of PanaCast 2, the world's first Panoramic-4K plug-and-play video camera system, and industry-first features such as Intelligent Zoom, has partnered with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) to enhance the capabilities of its globally connected classroom experience. Altia Systems' array of video conferencing technology has been deployed by more than 130 universities worldwide, including University of Florida, Ohio State University, California State University Stanislaus, University of Hawai'i at Manoa, Acadia Divinity College, Northwest Missouri State University and University of Idaho, to enable educators to better engage remote students and faculty.

Altia Systems' flagship product, PanaCast 2, has a 180-degree field of view that creates a natural viewing experience by mimicking the human eye. The camera includes real-time detection, sensing and learning capabilities, such as Intelligent Zoom, which automatically zooms in and out to include all video participants in a room by detecting human faces. PanaCast Whiteboard, a computer vision software, detects whiteboards of any size and displays their content as a second video stream and virtual camera within a video conference. Whiteboard automatically improves image quality and corrects distortion to produce a clear image, enhancing the video collaboration experience and better engaging remote students and faculty.

"Carnegie Mellon University needed the latest in video camera technology to seamlessly connect and create cohesion among our various campuses in Silicon Valley Pittsburgh and Dubai, for example," said Stuart Evans, Distinguished Service Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Carnegie Mellon University. "PanaCast lets me clearly see each of my classrooms on the same screen. My students are 10 times more engaged. PanaCast lets someone be seen when he or she is raising a hand to ask a question, or receive input from a student halfway around the world."

"In the past, universities used electro-mechanical Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras to connect students and classrooms, which heavily limited the experience due to delays and disruptions caused by camera movement and re-focusing," said Altia Systems President and CEO, Aurangzeb Khan. "For the first time, having a 180-degree field of view enables the true classroom experience digitally, alleviating these disruptions. This allows for seamless knowledge-sharing, enabling educators to assess student engagement and answer students' questions in real-time, enabling both students and educators to communicate within a natural education experience in a virtual environment."

PanaCast technologies are compatible with most learning management systems such as Moodle®, Canvas®, Panopto®, and most video conferencing platforms such as Zoom®, BlueJeans® and GoToMeeting®, Cisco WebEx, Microsoft Skype (News - Alert) and Skype for Business, among others, allowing for simple integration into any classroom. The company is continuously expanding the PanaCast platform to include additional collaboration technology that enhances learning environments across universities and colleges, such as PanaCast 2s, a software that enhances and extends the functionality of the PanaCast 2 camera, and the PanaCast 3D VR Kit, both of which go into production this year.
