During his time at MTVNI, Roedy and his team built from scratch a global operation of 200 channels and 20 brands (including MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central) in 200 countries, reaching a potential audience of 2 billion people andlaunching the most channels in the history of television. Prior to joining MTVNI, Roedy served as a Vice President for HBO for ten years, for which he was named one of the "Pioneers" of the U.S. cable industry and inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame Class of 2015. Earlier in his career, he was an officer in the United States Army, where he qualified as Airborne and Army Ranger with decorated combat service in Vietnam, receiving the Bronze Star, Air Medal and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He then commanded nuclear missile bases in Italy as part of NATO, receiving the Meritorious Service Medal.



In addition to these considerable accomplishments, Roedy has taken an active role in a wide range of corporate social responsibility issues, most notably global health. In 1998, Roedy was named Ambassador for UNAIDS, and he has addressed the UN General Assembly on several occasions regarding the HIV/AIDS pandemic. He was a founding member and chair of the Global Business Coalition (GBC) on HIV/AIDS from 1998 to 2002, and later as Chair of the Advisory Board. In 2005, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan appointed him founding chair of the Global Media AIDS Initiative Leadership Committee. In November 2010, he was appointed as the first ever Envoy for the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisations (GAVI) by Mary Robinson, the GAVI Chair, joining the board in 2015 and chairing the subcommittee on independent governance.

Roedy is also the founding Chairman of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, which provides young people with resources to fight the AIDS epidemic at the grass roots level, in combination with MTV's award-winning HIV/AIDS programming.


Other global health initiatives to which Roedy contributes include the boards of amfAR, Fitzmi, The Hawn Foundation (Goldie Hawn) and Global Health Corps.
