Southwest Engineers Inc., a full-service civil and environmental engineering consulting firm, today announced it awarded the 2017 Texas Civil and Environmental Engineering Scholarships to outstanding youth leaders and Crockett High School students, Joseph Baca and Gabriella Rico. Both recipients plan to pursue degrees in civil engineering with Baca attending The University of Texas at Austin's Cockrell School of Engineering and Rico enrolling at Texas A&M University at College Station.

Southwest Engineers selected Baca and Rico to receive the scholarships based on their interest in pursuing an engineering career, academic performance and extra-curricular activities.

She currently works part time with Austin Stone Church and Zoe's Kitchen. Her main interests fall with sustainability issues.

"We continue to offer support for students pursuing a career in civil or environmental engineering, and are thrilled to honor these future leaders. Joseph and Gabriella have demonstrated the drive and academic prowess needed to move our profession forward," said John Littlefield, president of Southwest Engineers. "We believe these two very accomplished students will achieve success with their future endeavors."
