United States Market Report for Shaver Blades 2017 - Unit Sales, ASPs, Market Value & Growth Trends - Research and Markets

The "US Market Report for Shaver Blades 2017 - MedCore" report has been added to Research and Markets' offering.

In 2016, the shaver blade market was valued at over $260 million, a modest increase over the previous year. Growth was driven by an uptick in units sold, while prices remained relatively stable. The total shaver blade market includes two segments: (1) the disposable shaver blade segment and (2) the reprocessed shaver blade segment.

Reprocessed blades are disposable blades that have been reprocessed to sharpen the blade. Reprocessed blades are re-sold at a lower price than a new disposable blade. The difficulty in reprocessing shaver blades involves sterilization and quality control. Furthermore, reprocessed shaver blades are not as sharp as new disposable ones. Surgeons may encounter problems with operating on some patients who have higher bone density than others. Most surgeons prefer disposable shavers over reprocessed shavers in the United States.

In 2016, about 75% of total arthroscopic procedures were performed in the ASC (News - Alert) setting. However, ASCs generally have a smaller budget compared to hospitals, and are therefore more price-sensitive. Reprocessed blades are more popular in smaller clinics and surgical centers due to their low average selling prices.

There are three main types of capital equipment associated with the power shaver market:

(1) shaver consoles

(2) hand instruments

(3) footswitches.
