To implement this change the engineers would rewrite their proprietary web server software and enable the DR site into a read-only database.   All reporting requests would go from the primary site to the DR site for processing.  The changes resulted in significant improvements:

• Decreased time to insert and update records in the main data center – add patient, add appointment, etc.
• Reduced the average load on the primary data center servers by 45%
