Chicago CEO to Talk Yoga Benefits at United Nations' 'International Day of Yoga'

This week Stanton Kawer, chairman and CEO of Chicago-based Blue Chip Worldwide, will share his perspective on the leadership benefits of yoga and mindfulness at the United Nations' third annual International Day of Yoga.

Kawer will take part in a panel conversation on "Yoga for Health" alongside retired NFL player Keith Mitchell, executive director of the World Health Organization Dr. Nata Menabde and other yoga practitioners from around the world. The panel discussion will focus on the variety of ways in which yoga and mindfulness contribute to physical and mental health, as well as promoting social harmony.

"I'm honored to take part in this discussion about yoga's many health benefits," said Kawer, who began practicing yoga in 2005. "Yoga has been an indispensable and complementary discipline to being a CEO. It has helped me become a better leader with its emphasis on focus, clarity of vision and developing strong, positive community. Blue Chip prides itself on our employee culture, and I believe yoga has played an integral role in its development."

Blue Chip is one of many Chicago companies that offer free weekly yoga classes as a benefit to its employees, in addition to several other employee-focused wellness benefits.

"I tell our new employees that an office is a unique social experiment," said Kawer, who has written about the benefits of yoga for leaders in Forbes. "We spend so much of our lives with each other, and so it's important that we feel fulfilled and create a positive environment. Yoga is all about fostering and nurturing this kind of affirmative culture."

In 2014, the U.N. General Assembly declared June 21 to be the International Day of Yoga to promote India's "invaluable gift" of this ancient tradition, and to raise awareness of yoga's health benefits. Events span two days, June 20-21, and include an open yoga session on the north lawn at the U.N., and culminate in the panel discussion at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber of the U.N.
