The VR Society Just Announced the Highly Anticipated "Spider-Man: Homecoming VR" Experience Joins "NASA's Apollo Museum" VR Debut Plus over 50 Acclaimed VR Experiences at The VR Society's The Art of VR NY Festival at Sotheby's


The Art of VR NY festival enriches its growing list of VR experiences with "Spider-Man: Homecoming VR" and "NASA's Apollo Museum VR" experiences. Panels for the event feature industry leaders from the worlds of filmmaking, fine art, museums, music, and technology. As previously announced, The Art of VR NY will be held at Sotheby's on June 22-23. VR World, the largest experience center for virtual reality in the Western Hemisphere, will host the closing night reception.

For the first time, you can suit up as Spider-Man and see what it's like to be the world's favorite superhero. Learn the ins and outs of your brand new Stark Industries upgraded web shooters and master different web types as you race to complete fast-paced targeting trials - but you'll have to learn quickly…The Vulture is on the loose and coming for you. Swing high above the city in a dramatic confrontation before pursuing Spidey's deadliest enemy. Based on the all-new 2017 film, the "Spider-Man: Homecoming VR" Experience is a fun and thrilling first-person look inside the world of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

"Spider-Man: Homecoming VR" was produced by Sony Pictures Virtual Reality and developed by the award-winning agency CreateVR, using industry-leading Dell (News - Alert) Precision workstations powered by Intel. See the trailer here: Spider-Man: Homecoming VR.

"Bunker," a pop-up VR gallery founded by Gabriel Barcia-Colombo, features the work of artists who collaborate with technology to create groundbreaking work in the form of code-driven sculpture, augmented reality, and virtual installation. Museums associated with the exhibition include: The Met, New Museum/Rhizome, LACMA, Smithsonian, Natural History Museum NYC, Apollo 11 Experience, and Ziv Schneider's Museum of Stolen Art. Participating artists include: Ashley Zelinskie, Pedro G. C. Oliveira, Rosalie Yu, Sarah Rothberg, Jamie Zigelbaum, Carla Gannis, Jeremy Bailey, and Christian Lemmerz.

Sotheby's and LOOT Interactive present "NASA's Apollo Museum," where you can explore one of mankind's defining achievements. Explore true-to-scale models of the Saturn V rocket, Command Module, and Lunar Module; walk the entire mission from launch to re-entry via a Museum-length mission map; and teleport to a recreation of the Apollo 11 moon-landing site! Built utilizing Linden Lab's new social VR platform, Sansar, "NASA's Apollo Museum VR" Experience launches on PC, Oculus Rift, and HTC (News - Alert) VIVE later this year. The special viewing area coincides with an exhibition of highlights from Sotheby's upcoming Space Exploration auction.

New York Premieres include "Raising a Rukus," produced by VRC and two-time Oscar winner Robert Stromberg, a groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind VR experience for the entire family, and a sneak peek of two-time Oscar winner A.R. Rahman's, "Le Musk," a VR flm produced with Intel and experienced in a Positron chair. Also joining the festival is "The Martian VR Experience," executive produced by Ridley Scott; directed by Stromberg; and produced by VRC, MPC, RSA, and Fox.



Presenting sponsor AMD|Radeon will be screening ALIEN: COVENANT: In Utero VR gallery, produced by Ridley Scott's RSA Films, 20th Century Fox, and MPC. They will also screen "Lincoln in the Bardo," by Sensorium, based on the book Lincoln in the Bardo, by George Saunders - a grief-stricken Lincoln visits the grave of his young son Willie as the ghosts of the cemetery look on.

The Art of VR NY is adding another five acclaimed VR experiences, bringing the total number to over 50 for the festival. This collection represents the myriad ways artistic expression and storytelling are being utilized in this new medium.


"Dragonflight" by Blackthorn Media - Imagine flying on a dragon in a mythical landscape similar to "Game of Thrones." "Rose Colored" by INVAR - The pilot for an anthology VR series about emerging technologies and their impact on our experiences and ability to make choices. "Break a Leg" by Apelab - An interactive experience inspired by the magic shows of the 19th Century such as Houdini and Kellar was built to trick the mind through misdirection and routine. "Reaping Rewards" by Limitless VR - An interactive VR short film that places the viewer in the role of a young Grim Reaper where you must make some difficult choices. "The Day The Asteroid Struck" by Discovery VR - Experience the extraordinary journey of the 1908 Tunguska event in VR. Ride with the meteor as it barrels towards Earth and witness the devastating impact as it breaches the Earth's atmosphere and explodes over Siberia.

Jonathan Gagne of MasterpieceVR has signed on to perform live at The Art of VR NY festival. Previously announced artists who are performing/exhibiting at the festival include: John MacInnes, Remington Scott, Marina Berlin, BlueVishnu, Zenka, Kevin Mack, Jane Lafarge Hamill, Alexx Henry, Isaac Cohen, Virry VR, and VRART.

The Art of VR NY will feature engaging conversations with some of the most sought-after creative forces in filmmaking, fine art, museums, performance art, and technology, including: Doug Liman (Director), Maria Bello (Actress/Activist/Writer), Elijah Allan-Blitz (Director), Jake Zim (Sony Pictures Virtual Reality), Tony Parisi (Unity), Guy Primus (VRC), and Loren Austin Hammonds (Tribeca Film Festival).
