FastX 2.4 Gives EDA Tools a Speed Boost Using Latest WebAssembly Browser Technology

AUSTIN, Texas, June 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- DAC 2017: StarNet Communications Corp, (http://www.starnet.com) a leading publisher of remote Linux and Unix visualization solutions, announced the release of FastX 2.4, the first remote Linux display solution optimized with WebAssembly. Users will see a noticeable browser client performance upgrade, particularly with video and graphics applications such as Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools used in semiconductor design. Additionally, FastX 2.4 sports an updated User Interface and adds to its admin toolset.

FastX 2.4 is demonstrated at booth #1042 at the Design Automation Conference in Austin Texas, June 19-21.

The latest in browser technology, WebAssembly improves in-browser client-side scripting by executing instructions natively instead of through an interpreter. Users of the FastX browser client will experience a substantial performance improvement due to improved graphics decoding.  Browsers that have adopted WebAssembly include FireFox, Chrome, Safari and Edge.

According to Steven Schoch, StarNet co-founder and CEO, "With WebAssembly, performance of Linux applications through a browser will run at near native speed. WebAssembly is the absolute laest in browser tech, it will be some time before other remote Linux tools can offer this performance advantage. Coupled with optimization for operating in cloud environments such as AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, engineers using FastX will be effectively designing from any device with a browser."

FastX is the only remote Linux display program to offer both a desktop client and a browser client for users to connect to their Linux servers.  "Browsers are becoming the Linux display platform of choice because users can access their Linux applications and work productively from any device with a browser," Schoch added.

Admins will be pleased with additions to the admin toolset that ease deployment and user management. Version 2.4 offers several new RDP Protocol extensions to help reduce bandwidth consumption and thus improve performance. New Admin Tools were added to simplify upgrades and installation. An Advanced Windows Management system allows users to restore all their minimized windows at once when reconnecting to the Linux server.

Pricing & Availability
FastX can be downloaded with a 30-day free evaluation license from the StarNet Web site. FastX list price is $345 for a single concurrent license. Volume, government and educational discounts are available.
