Symposium on Hospital Air Quality to Be Given at Portland Infection Prevention Meeting

Concurrently with the 2017 annual conference of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC), an educational satellite symposium entitled "Contaminated Air and Hospital Acquired Infection: The Mycobacterium Chimaera Wake-up Call" will be offered. Moderated by Kathy Warye, CEO of Infection Prevention Partners, the seminar will be given on Wednesday June 14th, 2017 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Hilton Portland Grand Ballroom 1, and will be open to all attendees of the APIC conference. The lead speaker will be Ruth Carrico, PhD, FNP-C, FSHEA, CIC, Associate Professor of Infectious Disease at the University of Louisville.

The educational symposium will discuss the risk of environmental transmission of bacteria in hospitals. Studies suggest that contaminated air may play a greater role in hospital acquired infections than previously recognized. The topic of operating room contamination, including recent outbreaks of Mycobacteria transmission will be emphasized. This symposium will help infection preventionists develop a deeper understanding of the role of air quality in the prevention of hospital acquired infections, the current standards of care for hospital air quality and possible pathways for reduction of risk.

The educational symposium is sponsored by Aerobiotix, Inc., a global leader in air quality improvement strategies and systems for the healthcare industry. Visit Aerobiotix at APIC Booth 564 at the Oregon Convention center, June 14-16, 2017.
