Allied Telesis Offers Flexible Migration Path to 10 Gigabit Ethernet with x550 Series of Stackable Switches

High performance, rich Layer 3 feature set, small form factor and low power consumption make x550 switches an ideal solution for data centers and enterprises looking for an affordable migration path from Gigabit to 10 Gigabit Ethernet to support high-bandwidth, mission critical applications.

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 1, 2017 /CNW/ -- Allied Telesis, a leading provider of hardware and software products that allow customers to build secure, feature-rich and scalable data exchange solutions, has launched the x550 series of stackable 10 Gigabit Ethernet Layer 3 switches. Despite industry enthusiasm for 10 Gigabit Ethernet, many mid-market companies have found themselves unable to widely adopt the technology due to high cost, low port density and high power consumption.

Allied Telesis addresses these issues and provides an easy migration path to 10G, with a family of products that offer port density and flexible media configurations with high, eco-friendly performance – all in a space-saving ½ rack-width package.

The x550 Series consists of three switch models:

Model

Port Configuration

Availability

x550-18XTQ

16 x 1G/10G RJ-45 with 2 x 40G QSFP+

Now

x550-18XSQ

16 x 1G10G SFP+ with 2 x 40G QSFP+

Now

x550-18XSPQ

8 x 1G/10G SFP+ and 8 x 1G/10G RJ-45 PoE+ with 2 x 40G QSFP+

Orderable  Q4, 2017

All x550 series switches support a flexible stacking model that allows the user to choose the speed and the media of the stacking link: 40G fiber or 10G fiber or 10G copper. If the user chooses 10G copper, then Cat6a can be used as the stacking cable, dramatically reducing the cost of building a resilient solution.  Up to four units can be stacked, and stacks can be created over long-distance fiber links, making the x550 series the perfect choice for highly resilient, distributed aggregation or network cores supporting automated disaster recovery applications.

In addition to providing a flexible, high performance aggregation solution, the x550-18XSPQ model will be an ideal solution for deploying 802.11ac Wave2 wireless networks. The combination of PoE+, delivering up to 30W per port, and 2.5G NBASE-T capability enables easy connectivity with maximum throughput for the latest high-speed wireless access points.

"The Internet of Things, distributed computing and application virtualization are driving an increase in connections  and combined data throughput at an unprecedented rate and many organizations are finding it incredibly hard to maintain the necessary infrastructure to keep up," said James Mustarde, Vice President of Marketing. "Our goal is to help IT managers optimize their spending without compromising on capacity, performance and security, and  the x550 series is ideal in that respect."

Powered by AlliedWare Plus and featuring Autonomous Management Framework™ (AMF), x550 switches enable organizations to build highly resilient and secure 10 Gigabit networks that support simplified management and increased operational efficiency with low total cost of ownership.
