“We’re honored that our EHR, Kareo Clinical, received the top score in the FrontRunners ranking,” said Dan Rodrigues, founder and CEO of Kareo. “It’s been our goal from the beginning to make it easier for providers to deliver high-quality care by offering them user friendly, affordable, and comprehensive software. It’s especially gratifying to know that the FrontRunners score is based on customer evaluations. We work hard to build strong relationships with the healthcare providers we serve, listening to their needs and developing the tools to help their practices thrive.”

The FrontRunners contenders were evaluated and given a score for the Capability (x-axis) and Value (y-axis) brought to users, and then slotted into quadrants representing “Leaders,” “Masters,” “Pacesetters,” and “Contenders.” Overall, 63 separate software providers were evaluated, with the top 31 identified as FrontRunners.

Kareo placed in the upper right “Leaders” quadrant, reserved for all-around strong products offering the highest value and capability in that market, according to Software Advice. (See Figure 1.)

Notably, the FrontRunners evaluation included an extensive set of core capabilities, including charting/patient records, order entry, decision support, automated coding assistance, care plans, reporting/analytics and ONC-ATCB certification, as well as at least one of the following: clinical interoperability or a patient portal. They also identified these additional features that medical practices may consider when deciding on EMR/EHR software: patient scheduling, medical billing, claims scrubbing, claims management, e-prescribing, handwriting recognition, patient eligibility checks, statements and collections and voice recognition.

The Capability Score is an overall weighted average of scores including end-user ratings of product functionality, ease of use, customer support, key functionality, and the number of other products that integrates with it.

The Value Score is an overall weighted average of scores including end-user ratings on satisfaction with the product, how valuable they consider the product relative to its price, and how likely they are to recommend the product to others, as well as scores for the size of the product’s customer base, the number of professionals who have experience with the product, the total number of user reviews across three Gartner web properties, and the average number of times per month that internet users search for this product on Google.

“Kareo is extremely easy to navigate for any physician, mid-level provider, and clinic staff,” said Kareo user Lee Peter Bee, DO, Internal Medicine. “The interface is extremely intuitive, simple, with built-in and customizable templates that allow you and your staff to complete the intake, history, physical, and charting in minutes. Most of all, it is built for mobile and desktop platforms. My staff and I can access Kareo EHR on our mobile phones, PDAs, iPads, or Google-based pads with ease.

“The integrated billing features, electronic prescriptions, along with integrations with various laboratory and diagnostic test centers make Kareo a complete EHR solution for a small to mid-size practice,” continued Dr. Bee. “It is not easy to impress me, having built the entire IT infrastructure myself for my own practice and for several medical practices around the country. Kareo's cloud-based EHR system makes it easy for migration, conversion and implementation, without having to upgrade to expensive server systems.”
