Dow Showcases Collaboration and Innovation at SB'17 Detroit

The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), a lead sponsor of Sustainable Brands 2017 (SB'17) Detroit, will highlight the value of innovation and collaboration under the umbrella of "Redefining the Role of Business in Society." Dow presenters will share diverse examples of how Dow is collaborating across the value chain to help provide solutions to world challenges today and create societal blueprints that will advance the transition to a more sustainable society.

Neil Hawkins, Dow corporate vice president and chief sustainability officer, will speak during the opening evening events. Hawkins will join Bill Ford (News - Alert), chief executive officer of the Ford Motor Company, and Pashon Murray, co-founder of Detroit Dirt, in sharing stories of transformative journeys in and around Detroit, "America's comeback city." Hawkins will share how Dow, through a six-year collaboration with The Nature Conservancy, has shown that building nature's value into business strategy can deliver tangible business and tangible results. Valuing Nature is one of Dow's 2025 Sustainability Goals.

"We realize global challenges are not solved in silos, and SB'17 Detroit is a dynamic forum for business and leading-edge practitioners in sustainability to share ideas and to drive systems change," said Hawkins. "Game-changing collaboration is a cornerstone of our 2025 Sustainability Goals, and throughout the conference, we will share how recent collaborations with value chain partners and groups as diverse as The Nature Conservancy, the University of Michigan and Hefty are helping us create value not only for Dow but for society."

As host of the Good Chemistry pavilion, Dow employees and collaborators will present throughout the conference at the pavilion. A sampling of presentation titles shows the range of topics to be discussed: Reimagining Cities of Tomorrow; Restaurant of the Future; Advancing a Circular Economy; Closing the Water Loop; Talking Trash; Better for Nature, Better for Business; and Community-Led Innovation with Caravan (presented by a University of Michigan Dow Sustainability Fellow). Because the conference is such an important venue for sustainability advancement, Dow will release its 2016 Sustainability Report in conjunction with the opening of SB'17 Detroit.
