Tech Visionaries And Next-Generation Thought Leaders Scheduled To Appear At 2017 WIRED Business Conference

NEW YORK, May 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- WIRED today announces speakers for the 2017 WIRED Business Conference—the exclusive one-day event that showcases the most forward-looking technologists, innovators, and business executives shaping the future. The 10th annual WIRED Business Conference, presented by Visa, returns to New York City on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Spring Studios in Tribeca.

This year the WIRED Business Conference will tackle the big questions facing business today, including how technologies like artificial intelligence have accelerated the rate of change across all industries, from stock trading to consumer payments, health care to entertainment, design theory to digital advertising. WIRED editors will engage in one-on-one conversations with industry leaders and pose the question: "How are you preparing for what's next?"

"Each year, the WIRED Business Conference offers a chance to hear what the most innovative people in technology are working on," said Nicholas Thompson, editor in chief, WIRED. "This year, we plan to explore the big questions facing some of the most brilliant minds in the industry right now, along with the moral and ethical choices they confront." The 2017 WIRED Business Conference speakers include:

Andy Rubin, smartphone inventor and founder of Android, the operating system which powers billions of devices worldwide, who is now attempting to ensure the future of open digital ecosystems—and bring AI to everyone

David Limp, senior vice president of devices at Amazon, who oversaw the development of the Amazon Echo and its AI home assistant, Alexa

Jennifer Doudna, the UC Berkeley biochemist who unveiled the groundbreaking gene-editing tool CRISPR in 2012 and who now admits that the powers of genetic modification are giving her nightmares

Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, co-creators and show-runners of HBO's Westworld, a show that explores the ethical and moral questions that arise between humans and human-created technology

Lily Peng, a physician and biomedical engineer at Google Health (recognized on WIRED's Next List), who is using AI in developing countries to identify early signs of blindness

Lord Norman Foster, British architect and founder of Foster + Partners, who worked closely with Steve Jobs on his final product, the new Apple Park global headquarters in Cupertino

Richard Craib, the 29-year-old founder of Numerai (recognized on WIRED's Next List), a hedge fund that uses artificial intelligence to power all trades and that flouts Wall Street's norms by sourcing its algorithms from anonymous data scientists who compete for bitcoins

Urs Hölzle, senior vice president of technical infrastructure at Google, who oversees the servers, networks, and data centers that power Google's massive online presence

Yasmin Green, head of research and development at Jigsaw (recognized on WIRED's Next List), the Google-owned think tank that is using algorithms and targeted advertising to fight back against ISIS propaganda

These women and men are the technical, creative, idealistic visionaries who are working behind the scenes to reshape the future of business and bring the world of tomorrow to us today. Some of them may not be household names (yet), but they represent the best of what's next.

The 2017 WIRED Business Conference is made possible with the support of presenting sponsor Visa. As part of the day's programming, Jim McCarthy, executive vice president of innovation and strategic partnerships, will discuss how Visa is helping to ensure that every Internet-connected device can become a secure place for commerce, as the global payments industry shifts from plastic to digital.

"As consumers continue to shift to digital and bring technology into every aspect of their lives, it presents an enormous opportunity to companies willing to push the boundaries today in order to reshape the future," said Jim McCarthy, executive vice president of innovation and strategic partnerships, Visa Inc. "Being able to look ahead to what's next is core to WIRED's own mission and has been critical to Visa's success through many technological inflection points over the years. We're excited to be part of the WIRED Business Conference's annual dialogue about the technologies shaping our future with some of today's most creative and brilliant minds."

Over the past 10 years, the WIRED Business Conference has identified industry-shapers and future heads of business before their industry impact was widely recognized. The 2016 conference made headlines with significant announcements, including: Rony Abovitz of Magic Leap announcing a partnership with ILMxLab; Facebook's David Marcus teasing details on the expanded capabilities of Facebook Messenger; and Chris Milk announcing a pivot of his VR company, Within.
