Jessie Mooberry, Entrepreneur, Drone Enthusiast & Peace Builder, Joins Maker Movement Leaders & Experts at Maker Faire Bay Area 2017

SAN FRANCISCO, April 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Maker Faire is pleased to announce the speaker line-up and program for its upcoming and largest Faire, Maker Faire Bay Area 2017, to be held May 19-21, at the San Mateo Event Center in San Mateo, CA. From leading voices and catalysts in the Maker Movement sharing big picture thoughts and wisdom to Makers sharing specific hands-on how-to advice on a myriad of topics, the program will educate, inspire, and engage attendees providing them with new resources, skills, and inspiration.

Joining the program for the first time is Jessie Mooberry, technologist at Stanford University's Peace Innovation Lab, aviation aficionado, and previous COO of SwarmX. Jessie's love of flying started early on and, with her entrepreneurial mindset and drive for bringing peace to the world, has propelled her into the arena of using "tech for good." At Maker Faire Bay Area, Mooberry will share the story of how she went from humanitarian UAV volunteer to female drone company executive at only 25, with her Gateway to Drones presentation, with the goal inspiring other makers to use their skills for good.

There will be 9 stages this year covering topics such as electronics, microcontrollers, drones, and circuit boards; taking ideas and prototypes to market; bringing the maker mindset to the classroom; emerging tech; science; and food, farming, and homesteading hands-on demos. • Adam Savage—Co-host of Mythbusters, editor-in-chief of Tested.com, and ultimate maker, Savage will impart his wisdom and experience about the impact making has on all of us.
• Bruce Beasley—Artist Bruce Beasley, An Original Maker—Beasley, a pioneer of the use of 3D printing for sculpture, is one of the nation's most renowned sculptors. His work is in the permanent collections of 35 art museums around the world and he created 50 monumental sculpture installations internationally. He will share his story about 3D printing's impact on his methodology for his creations and his life making before "making" was a thing.
• Charles Platt—Learning by Discovery: The Best Way—Platt is the author of the bestselling book Make: Electronics, which introduced the concept of "learning by Discovery," the hands-on approach that is most fun and most effective. He'll make a rare public appearance to explain how the concept can work for anyone, as well as present some new gadgets and toys.
• David Neevel—Burnedyourtweet and Other Contraptions—Neevel will show videos of his "practically useful contraptions" including a potato that takes selfies, a robotic hand, and motion detecting eyeballs. He'll also be bringing his newest machine, a robot that prints out each of @realdonaldtrump's tweets and sets it on fire.
• Grant Imahara—Innovation in the Maker Movement— Imahara, celebrity engineer, will talk about his projects before the Maker Movement began and how building today is much easier thanks to the Maker community.
• Les Machines—The Art of Les Machines de L'île de Nantes—Makers extraordinaire François Delaroziere and Pierre Orefice are the co-founders of Les Machines de L'île de Nantes (France) and will share how their machines are conceived, built, and tested in the magical workshop of the Co La Machine, the heart of the project.
• Talia Gershon—Beginner's Guide to Quantum Computing—Gershon will take attendees along on her recent journey picking up the basic concepts of quantum computing and starting experimenting with the IBM Quantum Experience: the world's first real quantum processor accessible to the general public through the cloud.

Google continues its support of Maker Faire Bay Area as a Goldsmith Sponsor. This year their tent will showcase the "Eclipse Megamovie" project, a collaboration between Google's Making & Science Team, UC Berkeley, and other science institutions. This first-of-its-kind citizen science project will gather scientifically valuable data from the total solar eclipse that will traverse North America on August 21, 2017. The tent will also feature personal and team projects from makers at Google. Google will also be hosting the always popular "Learn to Solder" tent, where makers of all ages can learn or improve their soldering skills by making their own light-up pin.
