Anthem Inc. today announced that Hongmai (Mai) Pham, M.D., MPH, will join the company as vice president, Provider Alignment Solutions, effective May 2017. In this role, Dr. Pham will be responsible for Anthem's value-based payment collaborations with doctors and hospitals to expand access to high quality, affordable health care.

"Dr. Pham is widely recognized as an expert in Accountable Care Organizations and was the architect of several transformational value-based care programs while at CMMI. Her expertise and passion for collaborating with doctors to lower costs while improving the quality of health care makes her the perfect fit for this position," said Colin Drozdowski, Anthem's Senior Vice President of Provider Solutions. "We look forward to Dr. Pham's contributions as Anthem continues to enhance our industry-leading provider solutions efforts."

Dr. Pham's earlier work at CMMI included responsibility as the director of the Seamless Care Models Groups, overseeing the design and testing of models on ACOs and advanced primary care, including the Pioneer and Next Generation ACO Models and Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative. Previously, Dr. Pham was senior health researcher and co-director of research at the Center for Studying Health System Change and Mathematica, an independent health policy organization. A general internist, Dr. Pham has published extensively on payment policy issues including care fragmentation and coordination, and also practiced for several years at safety net clinics in the Washington DC area.
