Canadian Paralympic media consortium to feature live coverage of 2017 World Para Ice Hockey ChampionshipsOTTAWA, April 11, 2017 /CNW/ - Canadian fans will be able to follow all the action in real time as Canada's National Sledge Team takes to the ice at the 2017 World Para Ice Hockey Championships A-Pool in Gangneung, South Korea from April 12 to 20. Live coverage of all of Canada's games will be available online at Facebook Live (CDNParalympics) and CBCsports.ca (both live and on demand). Canada will be vying to regain the world title from their U.S. rivals who won the 2015 world championship, relegating Canada to silver. A top-five finish at this event will earn teams a qualifying berth at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games. Canada's preliminary round schedule: Wednesday, April 19: 11:00 (local) / 22:00 (EST Tues. Apr. 18) CAN vs. GER Canada's opening match is against European bronze medallists Norway, who will attempt their first podium finish since 2009. Seven countries are competing at the event: Canada, USA, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Italy and South Korea. All games will take place at the newly built Gangneung Hockey Centre. The Worlds will double as the Test Event for the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games. This offers teams and players the chance to try the venues ahead of next year's Paralympic Winter Games.
