Why: This event is designed to introduce the open source community to the recently announced ONAP (Open Network Automation Platform) initiative, fusing the prestigious Open-O project from China Telecom and open source ECOMP from AT&T (News - Alert).

Over the past few years, open source has emerged as a catalyst for change in the telecommunications and cable industry. By leveraging shared investments in technology, and collaborative innovation, operators and solution providers alike are in the midst of a complete overhaul of the software development lifecycle.

As large-scale open source platforms beginning with the OpenDaylight project, continue to gain momentum, telecommunications play an increasingly important role in the open source communities, and are beginning to evolve the open source methodology to address the needs of the world's largest operators and their technology partners.

At this event, the Linux Foundation will discuss best practices and experience driving among the most important open source projects in telecommunications. As open source migrates up the stack, examples based on the OPEN-O open orchestration project, which is in the process of merging into the Open Network Automation (News - Alert) Platform (ONAP), along with open source ECOMP will be presented for how to achieve success with open networking projects.
