New Technology Merges Filmmaking and Philanthropy at International Film Festival

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., March 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In a first-of-its-kind promotion to raise awareness and support for the important causes championed by filmmakers, the 2017 American Documentary Film Festival (AmDocs) has announced a partnership with Cheerful Giving, an innovative digital platform and mobile app that's paving the way for the future of philanthropy. (Available in the App Store and Google Play)

The festival, which runs from March 31st - April 5, 2017 in Palm Springs, CA is recognized internationally as an important venue for filmmakers, being named by MovieMaker Magazine as one of the five coolest documentary film festivals in the world.

This year, over 25 filmmakers have connected their films to charities and nonprofit causes with the aim of activating the generosity of their audiences at the festival. One such example is Jamie Redford, who co-founded The Redford Center with his father (Robert) in 2005 as a vehicle to make documentaries that inspire positive change. His new film 'Happening' takes audiences on a personal journey into the dawn of the clean energy era as it creates jobs, turns profits, and makes communities stronger and healthier across the United State. Beyond the remarkable story of innovation and technology, it's a film that explores the issues of human resilience, social justice, embracing the future, and finding hope for our survival.

"Our role has always been to take complicated issues and render them coherent, digestible and inspiring so people can get engaged," Jamie says.

Using Cheerful Giving's iOS and Android mobile app, festival attendees and the public at large have the opportunity to follow and support organizations like The Redford Center in a new way. Cheerful's cutting-edge Quick Response technology even allows users to capture QR Codes on movie screens and tickets for instantaneous giving.

Cheerful Giving and AmDocs are reinventing what it means to give back by leveraging storytelling, influencers, and the power of mobile technology to help charities deepen donor relationships and create greater impact than ever before. Cheerful's innovative digital tools and experiences combined with industry-leading security makes the act of giving safe, easy, cost-effective and fun.

This partnership aims to inspire a culture of generosity at the festival and beyond, broadening our imagination and laying the groundwork for a more philanthropic-minded posterity.
