Vaughan Mills is bullfrogpowering the equivalent of every home in Vaughan during Earth Hour 2017VAUGHAN, ON, March 23, 2017 /CNW/ - For this year's Earth Hour (Saturday, March 25), Bullfrog Power, Canada's leading green energy provider, and Vaughan Mills are teaming up to provide enough renewable energy to bullfrogpower every home in Vaughan for one hour. Through the agreement, Vaughan Mills will purchase 92,000 kWh of green electricity from Bullfrog Power—equivalent to what 86,065 homes in Vaughan would use in one hour.1 Vaughan Mills is one of seven Ivanhoé Cambridge shopping centres participating in Earth Hour events with Bullfrog Power. Together, they are bullfrogpowering the equivalent of 1.9 million households across Canada for one hour. "As part of our sustainability program, Vaughan Mills is always looking for new ways to improve our environmental performance. To celebrate Earth Hour this year, we're bullfrogpowering the equivalent of every home in Vaughan with green electricity—reducing all of Vaughan's environmental impact for one hour and showing our support for greener choices," said Stephen Gascoine, General Manager, Vaughan Mills. Vaughan Mills also bullfrogpowers its common areas with green electricity. That means that Bullfrog Power's generators put clean, pollution-free electricity onto the grid to match the amount of conventional power used by common areas at Vaughan Mills. Across Canada, Bullfrog Power's green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities. "Vaughan Mills' Earth Hour initiative demonstrates how businesses can positively impact their communities by taking action on climate change and raising awareness about the importance of transitioning to renewable forms of energy," said Anthony Santilli, VP Sales and Marketing, Bullfrog Power. Earth Hour is WWF's global environmental movement. Born in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour has grown to become the world's largest grassroots movement for the environment, inspiring individuals, communities, businesses and organizations in more than 170 countries and territories to take tangible climate action for over a decade. The movement recognizes the role of individuals in changing climate change and harnesses the collective power of its millions of supporters to shine a light on climate action. "Earth Hour is meant to spark meaningful changes to tackle climate change, including in our own homes," says David Miller, President and CEO, WWF-Canada. "It's an opportunity to focus on solutions and making the transition to renewable energy is something we must and can do." In addition to Earth Hour activities and choosing Bullfrog Power's green energy, Vaughan Mills' Lean & Green philosophy has led to the following initiatives:
