IAIABC NextGen Recognizing Young Talent in Workers' CompensationIs workers' compensation successfully engaging and developing young, new leaders? These leaders will be critical to ensuring the industry adapts and thrives in a changing world. To recognize these rising workers' compensation leaders, the IAIABC is introducing its "NextGen (News - Alert)" initiative, an awards program for those under the age of forty who are making their mark on the industry. The lack of younger talent, particularly in the insurance industry, has been identified as an important issue within the workers' compensation community. The insurance industry as a whole faces 400,000 open jobs by 2020 and IAIABC jurisdictional members note 40-50% of their workforce is eligible for retirement within 5 years. Workers' compensation is complex, highly regulated, and facing disruption across many dimensions. In order to successfully respond, workers' compensation needs to engage and foster leadership in the younger generations who will soon be carrying the industry into the future. The IAIABC is excited to bring together current and future leaders believing those interations will lead to innovation and progress. Recipients of the IAIABC NextGen award will be profiled in the September issue of Perspectives, the IAIABC's quarterly digital magazine. Recipients will also be invited to the IAIABC 103rd Convention, October 2-5, 2017 in Portland, Oregon to participate in a special program session. Some recipients may also be interviewed for the IAIABC's monthly podcast, "Accidentally." IAIABC NextGen nominations open on March 20 and close on May 12, 2017.
